EDSAR west slope was called out on Thursday evening, June 28, 2012 to assist the Tahoe team. The missing subjects were 3 adolescent girls who did not return to camp. A SAR team found the three around midnight, scare, bug-bitten but otherwise okay.
The image shows the start point of the SAR team that made the find (Upper Truckee Road) and the tracks to and from the drainage where the girls were found.

The missing subjects were 3 young ladies aged 12,13. They had wandered away from their camp at Lake Dardanelle around 2p.
I got assigned to a Tahoe team that was leaving the CP right as I was arriving in to Tahoe. We were designated team 4 and we fielded in anticipation for a 12 hr overnight op period.
We parked near a trailhead off of Upper Truckee rd. and headed south. (UTM 10S 758802 4298462)
We headed parallel to the Upper Truckee river on the West side of the river. We started to call for the subjects and shine flashlights around us including onto the east side of the river.
A couple hundred yards after the first waterfall, we heard the girls calling out. They had caught a glimpse of our flashlights and stated to call. We cross the river and found them huddled and cold on top of a rocky knoll. (UTM 10S 758660 4297702) They were dressed for a warm day, not a Tahoe night. We gave them some food, water and warm clothing. We ended up having to tape a broken flip flop to 1 girl's foot after her strap had broken earlier in the day.
We assisted them across the river. 2 team members escorted them 1 at a time across the rocks, and 2 were downstream safety. We then proceeded to hike them out.
One interesting note. The team lead had his radio ripped off his belt by a branch and into the river. We fished it out after we had gotten the girls back across the river. Fortunately we had back up radios.
The girls had reported that Calstar 6 had flown over them 4-5 times. Due to the wind conditions, the helo had to fly at a higher altitude and did not see the subjects through their NVGs.
