A Sacramento man, missing for two weeks, was found dead near Loon Lake. USFS rangers reported his found vehicle to El Dorado Sheriff, who found the vehicle was registered to a missing person.
On March 16, 2009 the EDSO, assisted by search dog teams, located the subject, apparently the victim of a suicide.
This is a venue for El Dorado SAR members to provide fill-in information and first-hand accounts of specific previous searches. After SAR302 posts the first item about a recent search, any SAR member is invited to add their comments/observations/feelings/experience as it relates to said search. The postings are then edited and posted to the ESARC website (edsar.org) for public viewing.

The K9 team was requested on 3/6 to search for any sign of this subject at the PLS. Two certified trailing dog teams arrived in the AM with Dep. Matt Cathey. The vehicle was found unlocked, keys inside and a video camera. Scent articles were obtained and an attempt was made to establish which direction the subject may have traveled. Evidence indicated the subject had been out there since 3/2 and 3-5ft of fresh snow had fallen since then. Due to the deep snow the teams only got as far as the dam. On 3/16, we tried again, with one trailing team and one area/cadaver team. Steve Bratton had reviewed the video the subject had left and he and Dep. Cathey came up with a general area to be searched. We deployed on snow shoes to the North side of the lake. Three things happened at once; I saw "disturbed looking" snow in the distance and as I suggested we check it out, my dog took off to an area and returned with an alert just as Dept Cathey said,"Hey, is that a red shirt"? As we went to investigate futher, The dog was plowing thru the snow and we saw the remains of what we believed was our subject under a tree. Area was flagged off, maked with orange powder and that pretty much ended our part. Evidence on the body helped identify him and the rest was up to the CSI guys.
**Winds were 20-30MPH,blowing ice, rain, windchill of about 0 degrees, visibility was 20ft or less because of fog, awesome day for a search!
