My first search ever - and boy was it cold... 3 Mounted team members searched along with two canine handlers along Martinez creek and up the ridges nearby. The only warm spots were where the sun happened to show through the thick tree beds and brush. Local hazzards included mine shafts, downed wire fences, and stray or unkept dogs in the area. Subject was found by a firefighter (?) alive. The rescue then became technical due to the steep terrain and the subjects inability to walk - medical issues. The subject was transported to medical care.

This search was announced to the SAR team at the debrief of the Winter SAR-Ex at Ice House Resort. Many of the SAR personnel left the SAR-Ex to head directly to the search. The search efforts continued through the night. The next day mutual aide was called in. This was one of the biggest searches in terms of personnel in recent history.

The subject was located by a motorcycle team from Placer County in the Martinez Creek drainage. Due to the steep terrain the subject was placed in the litter and lowered to the awaiting ambulance by SAR personnel and Diamond Springs Fire Dept.
